The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard is set to go live next year, and officials say the rollout has already boosted the quality of data across the UK pensions sector.

Progress on scheme connections

According to the Department for Work and Pensions, 85% of schemes that fall within the project’s scope have linked to the MoneyHelper-enabled ecosystem. All remaining in‑scope schemes are expected to meet the statutory connection deadline of 31 October. The minister, Torsten Bell, described the effort as a major pensions moment that will let individuals see their share of the country’s roughly £3 trillion pension wealth in a single view.

Bell noted that the programme, which had stalled before being “reset” by the previous government, is now on track. He added that the push for connections has encouraged schemes to clean up and modernise their data systems. “For the most part, it’s really going well with people. They’re finding it incredibly useful,” he said.

How the dashboard works

Chief executive of the Money and Pensions Service, Oliver Morley, explained that the dashboard will not store pension data centrally. Instead, it sends secure requests to each connected scheme, which returns matching records in real time. “The most important thing is that we don’t hold the data – we don’t want to hold the data,” Morley said.

Chris Curry, principal at the Pensions Dashboards Programme, echoed the data‑security stance during a regulator‑hosted webinar. He warned that keeping data out of a central repository reduces the risk of cyber‑criminal exploitation and stressed that the service must be ready at launch to preserve public trust.

The dashboard will display projected retirement income alongside current pot values for defined contribution schemes. It will also list contact details for pension providers and point users toward guidance services such as Pension Wise. All pension types—including defined benefit, defined contribution and collective defined contribution schemes—will be supported from mid‑July, though not every individual scheme will be linked until the October deadline.

During a media demonstration, Morley showed that users will access the dashboard using their GOV.UK One Login, the same credential used for tax, student loan and benefits services.

Morley said that around 3,000 to 4,000 people have already taken part in early consumer testing, providing a cause for optimism about user experience and adoption rates.

In addition to technical rollout, the Money and Pensions Service is preparing extensive guidance to accompany the dashboard. This includes resources for financial advisers and trustees who may see a surge in queries once the service becomes public. “We can’t stop people from making whatever choices they make, but we can at least make sure that they understand the choices there are,” Morley added.

From a broader perspective, the dashboard represents a step toward greater transparency in retirement planning. By aggregating information that was previously scattered across multiple providers, it could help savers make more informed decisions and potentially reduce reliance on costly intermediaries. However, the true impact will depend on how effectively the guidance and support mechanisms keep pace with user demand.

Bell indicated that a six‑month warning will be issued before the public launch, with the exact timetable to be confirmed once the industry fulfills its connection obligations. The minister emphasized that the rollout will not be rushed, aiming to ensure a smooth introduction for the public.

The MoneyHelper Pensions Dashboard appears poised to deliver a more unified view of pension assets.

The emphasis on data security and user guidance seeks to address concerns about privacy and the complexity of retirement planning.
